Summer Events

theslats June 30th, 2009

Dear High Desert Brewers,

Now that the Beer Fest is out of the way, it is time to get back to drinking beer vs. serving beer. Let’s get together Saturday July 18th for a summer beer tasting. Robin and Leon have offered the tasting room/deck area for us to use. (775 S. Capital) Commencing at 3 pm bring two bottles of your favorite beers that a lime, lemon, or orange complement the beverage. We can all sit around and have an informal summer beer tasting.
The club will provide the fruit as well as some of Wolfie’s Summer Beer.

In August, Frank is working on the HDBA night a the ballgame. We are looking at Aug 16th as it is beer cup night.
More details to come.

September, We are looking at a bus trip. Be thinking about Salt Lake City, Boise, Missoula, Jackson. Give us some feedback on where you would like us to organize this overnight trip.

Thanks,
HDBA Board

theslats May 11th, 2009

Number 1 – Robin and Leon have opened the door to the new Idaho Brewing Company. The tasting room is open on Thurs, Fri, and Sat 4pm til 9ish.
Congratulations, The club will support your efforts!

Number 2 – Please email myself back quickly, mccallbri (at) msn (dot) com, if you would like to go to Victor/Driggs next weekend. Saturday May 16th we will leave Idaho Falls around 2:00 pm and return around 9:00 pm. The Grand Teton Brewing Company will give us a private tour, then we can visit the new Wildlife brewing Company, and possibly make it to Tony’s Pizza which has over 30 beers on tap. Cost for the bus ride will be $15. Food, beer, and misc. is your responsibility.
Got canceled, not enough people responded.

Number 3 – Looking for Volunteers for the Mountain Brewers Beer Fest, June 6th 11:00 am to when the work is done. Some of you know the drill, but for our new members… we pour beer, lots of beers, all day long. Some brewers donate product, but do not have the staff to send to the fest. We step in and help dispense and promote their products. It is a very long day, but the rewards are great. Please email myself, mccallbri@msn.com, if you would like to help.

Number 4 – Gregg is putting together a trip to Italy in the fall.

Florence, Oct 30 – 2 nights Much to do in Florence (Domo (cathedral), David, Uffuzi, Ponte Vecchio) , etc. and on way out could stop in Pisa for the afternoon – more on that later if you are interested.

Santa Margherita Ligure, Nov 1 – 3 nights This is the southern end of the Italian Riviera, not far from La Spezia, Cinque Terra, Porto Fino and Genoa (Genoa is where some guy who is celebrated on October 12th was born)

Milan, Nov 4 – 3 nights From here can visit Lake Como, you can also do a day trip to Verona (you know, where two gentlemen are from.)

Working on details but need to know who is interested at this point so we can get quotes.

Email Gregg back if you are interested. GSMITHBEER (at) aol (dot) com

Happy New Year!

To celebrate the start of 2009, let’s get together next Saturday night, January 17th.

The annual Holiday Party will commence at 6 PM, at the Riverdale Grange Hall. The Holiday Party is the time to kick off the New Year by setting the agenda for 2009.

To that end the following activities are planned:

  • The White Elephant Gift Exchange – Here’s your chance to trade off one of your least favorite Christmas gifts for the chance at something better. Just bring a gift and register at the door. Loads of fun!\
  • Raffle – Bring a couple of extra bucks and your friend with the longest arms.
  • New Members – great time to bring in new friends to join the club.
  • Annual survey – write down your ideas for activities for the coming year.
  • Time to pay your annual Dues
  • Update your contact information – we want to make sure that we can keep you informed of all club functions.
  • Club Elections – let us know if you have a nomination for office.

Please bring a dish to share, we will bring the beer.

Make sure all of your friends know about the party; we don’t want to miss anyone.

See you on Saturday,

Bob

Holiday Party

HDBA December 4th, 2008

Hi all, hope you had a nice Thanksgiving,

Here’s the scoop on the Holiday Party.  As we did last year, the party formerly known as the Christmas Party will be moved to January.  This is necessary for a number of reasons the biggest being scheduling.  This will in no way diminish the fun and frivolity.

We plan to have the usual good eats, beer, of course, music, raffle, and the gift exchange.  You now have a method of trading off that not so great gift you got for Aunt Wilma for a chance at something much better.  Bring a gift with you, not too expensive, nice or funny to take part in the fun.  You will enjoy watching the hoping and scheming and surprise that goes on. We will endeavor to get Santa back from his post-Christmas vacation to officiate the proceedings.

This is also the official election of officers.  Bring your ideas for next year’s activities.  We need some folks to take the lead on organizing some of the outings (i.e. golf, picnic, trips).   This is a great time to bring in new members.

More details to come.

We all hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year,

Bob, Gregg, Lisa, Frank, Brian, Carl, Dan, Rochelle, boB, Wolf, Robin, Donna, and Matt

PS Make sure all of your friends know.  We are still working out the email problems.

Halloween Party Details

HDBA October 22nd, 2008

The Halloween Party is scheduled for Friday, October 31st, Halloween night, at the New Sweden Hall (Grange) at 7 PM.  No real theme this year but there will be door prizes and best costume prizes.  Please bring a dish to share and we’ll have the beer.  There will be a small fee of $5/ person to help with expenses.  It’s a great time to bring along friends and new members.  You can also pay your dues.
