As you all know, the Beer Club Holiday Party is set for January 15, at 6pm at the New Sweden Hall. But what Bob forgot to mention is the ever popular White Elephant Give Exchange!
This is the perfect time to recycle an unwanted/not needed Christmas gift!
It can be anything, but please try to keep the value of the item under $10.
Participation is not required, just for those that want to have fun!
See you all there!

Seasons Greetings From the HDBA,
Its time for the annual Holiday Party. This is one of our best and most important events. Here is the list of this years activities.
Elections: This is the time for the election of officers. If you would like to volunteer to run for office please let us know by emailing your intentions to bob@MBBF.org.
Fund Raising Raffle: This is the main fund raiser for the club. We have been busy beeging for raflle gifts from our friends in the brewing industry. If you have something you to donate to the raffle email us (see above). Once again we will be selling raffle tickets to raise money for the clubs functions.
Renewal of Membership: Many of you have renewed your membership at the Halloween party but the traditional time is at the Holiday (Christmas/New Year’s) Party. We will be available at the door to take your money.
Special Tasting: Frank is out looking for some special beverages for us to taste.
Fun, food and beer: Food for the party will be you usual pot luck format. The club will cook a large ham or two. Please bring a dish to share. Since we are a beer club we thought we’d put on a couple of kegs. The fun will take care of its self.
The party will commence at 6 PM on January 15th, at the New Sweden Hall. Please park in the parking lot in the back especially if the snow revisits us.

It’s that time of year again when we start moving inside for our fun and games so the HDBA will continue the time honored tradition of the annual Halloween Party. As you veterans know, this is one of the best functions of the year. We encourage everyone to bring along your friends who may wish to join our organization. There will be a cover charge of $5 per member and $15 for non-members ($20 covers dues for a year and with the cover, I’m just sayin’). Please bring a dish to share and we will have plenty of beer to wash it down. Rogue’s “Dead Guy” is the traditional quaff.
This year the theme is “Saturday Night Live”. Come dressed as your favorite SNL character or in any other costume you would like (or you can just so up as you are). There will be suitably cheesy prizes for the best wild and crazy guys, killer bees, cone heads and land sharks as well as the best witches and goblins.
The festivities will start at 6 PM at the Riverdale/New Sweden Grange Hall (I hear it’s haunted) on Saturday, October 30th.
All of you who entered the State Fair Homebrew Competition will be presented your awards and score sheets at the party.
Other matters:
We have enough folks interested in a beer judge class to start in October. We will meet once a week for about 12 weeks to get you ready for the exam. The emphases will be on the sensory evaluation of the beer. The study materials will come from the BJCP web site.
Email Bob (if you haven’t already) if you would be interested in the class. If you do not want to take the exam you are welcome to join in as long as we have the required number of exam takers. Fees include an upfront $35 non- refundable deposit for exam takers (the full exam fee is $50), and about $5/week to pay for the study aids (beer). Sign up by October 15.
Future events:
Holiday Party, Date TBD
St. Valentine’s Day Party February 13
St. Patrick’s Day Party March 12
Cheers,
The HDBA Board

Hello Beer Club Members,
Sorry we have been gone so long. It took longer to recover from the beer fest this year. The fest was great this year and we would like to thank all of you who helped out. It is always a worthwhile effort; raising money for charity. I hope you all feel good for your efforts.
We have a number of things up coming this summer. The annual trip to the ball park to watch the Chukars will come up soon. August 15th is the date we are planning on. We are also trying to get a picnic and /or golf outing together for the end of July. Please watch the web site for details.
The Eastern Idaho State Fair homebrew competition is also coming up. This year we are not only judging beer but homemade wine as well. I know many of you also make wine and we encourage you to participate in the competition as a competitor and a judge. We will need a number of judges with some wine experience to work with us to pull this out. If you are interested in the homemade wine competition contact us.
The homebrew competition will be judged differently this year. We hope to do the bulk of the judging the week before the fair and only do the best of show judging and the wine judging at the fair. This will allow us to have most of our judges participate and still take off the long weekend. We need an organizer to run the competition. If you are a new judge and need some extra points, this is a good opportunity.
GABF??? The Great American Beer Fest is September 16-18 this year. There have been more and more people expressing interest in bussing down to Denver to see this spectacle. We need to get on this ASAP if we want to find good accommodations and get a bus AND the tickets are fast being sold out. We don’t know the cost but it would be in the neighborhood of $500+ per person for the bus, tickets, and hotel assuming we get 25 people or more. Let us know by July 16th (that’s this Friday!) If we don’t get at least 20 serious people we won’t be able to do it this year.
Judge Class: If you would like to take a judge class send an email to bob@northamericanbrewers.org
Stay tuned,
Cheers,
The Board

On Saturday, April 10, we will be having a Brew Day at the Idaho Brewing Company. Those of you who are home brewers should bring along your brewing equipment and supplies and brew a batch of beer to demonstrate your system. Those of you who wish to learn how to brew should show up and lend a hand to one or more brewer and learn the tricks of the trade.
We have some very fine brewers in our organization and I hope they will all show up. The last time we did this it was great fun.
Oh, BTW, we have beer to consume for those who participate, donated by the fine fellows at Snake River Brewing.
The time is not yet carved in stone but it should start around 9 AM so we can clear out before the tasting room opens. The time will be in the reminder!
Cheers,
The Board

Coming up soon is the St. Patrick’s Day Party on Sunday afternoon, March 14th at 1 PM (1300 for you Europeans and military types) at the New Sweden Hall. The club will supply the beer and Wolf is making his world famous Corned Beef. Please bring along something to share. There will be a small fee at the door ($5 ?).
This is a good event to bring along friends who would like to join our group.
Upcoming events:
Wolf and Robin have graciously agreed to host us at the brewery for a “brew day” in April. This is a good opportunity to learn how to brew at home. Those of us who brew will haul our equipment to the brewery and brew up a batch. All you have to do is show up and jump in.
We would like to put those of you who are home brewers (or were) that have equipment that you are no longer using together with people who are getting started to help them along. Send us a note if you have things to list. We have one request for bottles! We can all help with that one.

The next club function is the St. Valentine’s Day Party. Its on Sunday the 14th. There are only 3 or 4 spots left so please RSVP. We have a number limit because of the venue and catering. So hurry!
The next event will be the St. Patrick’s Day Party. This is always one of the best. This is a good function to bring new members and for you to renew your membership. The party will be at the River Dale Grange / New Sweden Hall on Sunday afternoon, March 14th. Watch the web site for details.
Many of you have asked about a beer judging class. There will be an exam given in Boise on July 24th. If you are interested in the exam let us know and we will put together a class to get you ready. We need to know if you are serious about the exam very soon so that we can hold a spot for you. If you are interested email bob@northamericanbrewers.org with your contact information.
